THE FREDERIC CHOPIN SOCIETY

Since 1984, the Frederic Chopin Society has brought the power and beauty of classical piano to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. For most of that time, events have been part of an annual series of five Sunday afternoon concerts. Since 1992, the concert hall at Macalester College has been our exclusive home, but because the ongoing renovation of Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center will not be completed until the fall of 2012, all of our 2011-12 concerts will take place at Sundin Music Hall at nearby Hamline University.  

As it has for many years, the Chopin Society looks for pianists who represent a variety of places, performing styles, and repertoire. Most importantly, we seek artists who are not just masters of the keyboard, but exceptional communicators. Performers are of the highest caliber, and the setting in a small hall is ideal for piano. Although works of Chopin are frequently presented, our programming draws from the works of many composers. This season, in honor of the Liszt Bicentennial, we will be treated to a number of Liszt pieces not presented on our series before.

Please keep in mind that many Chopin Society concerts sell out ahead of time. Season ticket holders receive priority on ticket availability. Those who desire single tickets are urged to reserve them by phone (612-822-0123) or e-mail (chopinsocietymn@aol.com).

THE PIANO RECITAL

At its best, the solo piano recital is an intimate musical conversation between artist and audience. Many consider it the ‘summa’ of musical expression.

Our 29th season continues the great tradition of the piano recital with music-making that is intellectually stimulating, emotionally rewarding – and sometimes just plain fun!
